As anyone who’s thrown a bar mitzvah party will tell you, expenses can add up quickly. While some costs, like venue rental and entertainment, are unavoidable, most party paraphernalia can be done at home for a fraction of the cost.
To help you save a few bucks, we’ve compiled some great bar mitzvah party projects that you can do at home. With these resources, you’ll spend less time thinking about the bill at the end of the night and more time working on the “Electric Slide.”
• Make your own invitations
Invitations can be a big expense at bar and bat mitzvahs, so if you need general advice on making your own, check out e-How’s helpful guide. They offer insight into handmade vs. computer designed cards, paper options, and more.
If you’re strapped for time or just don’t have the interest in doing custom cards, there are a number of different sites that offer printable kits you can use. For instance, there’s Download and Print and I Do-It-Yourself, which are both inexpensive.
• Save on centerpieces
Centerpieces are a source of stress for many party planners, and the quickest way to de-stress is to pick up a pair of scissors. E-mitz, a blog dedicated to bar and bat mitzvah planning, has a page that breaks down centerpiece creation into 23 separate videos. Each video is short (under five minutes), so you’ll be crafting in no time.
If you’re in need of inspiration, Awesome Events has a great page with dozens of different centerpiece projects to pair with your theme. Mitzvahlicious, another bar mitzvah planning blog, also lists a number of different centerpiece projects for under $10. Use these ideas as a source of inspiration.
• Decorate for less
The blog Too Stinkin Cute also has great crafting tutorials and printables like DIY snack bags from old magazines, which, really, are too stinkin’ cute.
